MARSHALL, Texas – Earning her first East Texas Baptist/Gateway Tire & Service Center Female Athlete of the Week award is softball player Kelly Jo McLendon.  She went 2-0 on the week and was also named the American Southwest Conference pitcher of the week.

McLendon won both games on Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor pitching 13 innings and striking out 10 batters.  She pitched a two-hit shutout in game one and the only allowed four hits in game two with no earned runs in the series on her record.  She threw 11 scoreless innings before three unearned runs were scored in the fifth inning of game two ending her 21.1 scoreless inning streak.

In game one vs. Mary Hardin-Baylor, the game started off rocky as the bases became loaded in the top of the first inning with no outs.  She followed with two strikeouts and a fly out to get out of the jam and roll into a 5-0 shutout win with just two hits.  In both games combined, she retired the side five times and only walked one batter in 49 batters faced.
