Thursday, November 08, 2012

RICHARDSON, Texas – Five players from the East Texas Baptist University women’s soccer team gained All-American Southwest Conference awards in 2012.  ETBU had three players on the second team and two on the honorable mention team.

Earning second team status were Sasha Kotowych, Kia Jelly, and Kelsey Biscoe.  Kotowych made the team as a defender and played in 16 matches.  She helped with four ETBU shutouts and was an anchor for the defense.  Jelly led the team with seven goals, four assists, and 18 points taking 25 shots.  Biscoe finished the year with one goal, two assists, for four points playing in all 16 games.

Gaining honorable mention status is Rachel Pool and Natalie Torres.  Pool, a midfielder, netted one goal for two points and played in all 16 matches.  Torres earns her second award this year as she was the ASC “Offensive Player of the Week” in September for her play vs. the University of the Ozarks.  She finished third on the team in scoring with four goals, one assist, and nine points.  In the win over the University of the Ozarks, she produced a hat trick and then had an assist in a 3-1 win over Texas-Dallas.

ETBU finished the year at 8-7-1 and was 6-5-1 in the ASC gaining the #6 seed in the ASC Tournament. ETBU has made the ASC Tournament three out of the last four years.
